Introduction

It all started as a homework assignment when I was in fourth grade.  My teacher required the entire class to keep a daily journal, answering the prompts that she wrote on the chalkboard in our composition notebooks.  Being the weird kid that I am, I threw myself into the journal assignments — and decided to keep a journal even after the school year ended.  I wrote almost every day from fourth grade, all the way until my senior year of high school.

Several notebooks later, my quest for self knowledge continues.  Looking back on what I've written in the past, I'm constantly amazed by how much I've changed (and how much I've stayed the same).  Reading my past journals can be alternately painful, funny, cringe-worthy, nostalgic, and enlightening ... but it's always entertaining.

This blog is my attempt to share what I've learned over the past twelve years and to give you an uncensored glimpse into the mind of a kid (and later, a teenager).  All of the names have been changed out of respect for my classmates and friends, but I'll do my best not to hold anything else back.

I hope you'll enjoy revisiting my childhood self in all of her hyper-observant weirdness, and I hope you'll be brave enough to share your own stories as well.

Forever Young,

Liz
